Santa Kakese, Yann Kumbozi and Judith Kaluaji share their experiences in drawings: Here the three young comic artists tell about a visit to the Erlanger Bergkirchweih, problems with the local food or about new acquaintances during their first trip to Europe.
Judith Kaluaji took part in the Erlangen International Comic Workshop from June 9 to 16, 2022 as well as participated in the exhibition “Popular Images”. This comic was created as part of the seminar and combines her observations at the Erlangen Bergkirchweih, which she attended, with her own imaginings. Since she does not drink alcohol herself, the artist tried to imagine what her visit would have looked like if she had tasted the beer offered there.
Yann Kumbozi participated as an artist in the exhibition “Popular Images”. In this context, he offered his comics for sale and gladly signed them for his customers on site – and also drew some visitors. In these cartoons he recounts his experience with his fans, the Erlangen nightlife and his return to Kinshasa.
Santa Kakese participated in the Comic Seminar and the exhibition “Popular Images” during the Erlangen International Comic Salon. Enough time, therefore, to discover Erlangen. In her cartoon, Santa shows that this has also been difficult at times. Homesickness got to her especially when it came to the unaccustomed food. But the motivation to gain experience as a comic artist, to learn and to show her own work drove the homesickness away – comics everywhere, even on the plate!
