He lives and works in Kinshasa, and is internationally renowned in both the comic and art scenes. After studying interior design and painting at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa, he published his first auteur comic in 1990, titled “Le Boa avale une femme à Kinshasa” (“The Boa swallows a woman in Kinshasa”). Between 1990 and 2000, Mfumu’eto published more than 200 auteur comics, which were distributed in high circulation on the local markets in Kinshasa. Since 2000, Mfumu’eto has combined painting and comics, blurring the boundaries between art and illustration. Internationally, Mfumu’eto was represented in the “Beauté Congo” exhibition at the Fondation Cartier Paris in 2015, and in 2018 the University of Florida added some of his comics to its archive.
